Many Counselor-in-Training candidates (C.I.T.'s)
have been A.C.T. campers although it is not a
requirement. While a small stipend is provided,
the C.I.T. position is a not a salaried position.
It offers an excellent learning/training opportunity
for young people interested in working with children
and learning how to negotiate in a work environment
with peers and adults. While parents can certainly
encourage and support you in this pursuit, it
must be something the candidate wants to do. As
a C.I.T., they work as hard as anyone else and
sometimes even harder. By the end of the season
CIT's will have had experienced in a work environment,
learned group management skills, received feedback
and improved leadership skills. Besides the training
and appreciation from children and staff, you
will receive a weekly stipend for transportation
money.
Candidates are asked to discuss the summer camp
schedule with thier parents. Camp opens last week
of June and ends 3rd week of August. Candidates
must be available on the 3rd Saturday of June
and a few days prior to camp opening. Candidates
will be excused for mandatory school exams. Know
summer availability prior to submitting application.
Parents will be required to sign a permission
slip. C.I.T.' are required to complete a special
application available on our website www.actprograms.org.
Return that form to our office. We will contact
you for an appointment or send you a note if further
action is required. Go to our home page for CIT
information and packet or click here,
